DNA: Now, slum houses being built under SRA scheme to cost ? 2.5L lesser

With an eye on elections, persons who began residing in slums before 2011, were recently made eligible by the state government to accrue to the benefits of the Slum Rehabilitation Scheme. Apart from getting homes at construction cost, they will get an additional rebate of Rs 2.5 lakh, under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna scheme.

According to a senior official of PMAY, Maharashtra, the PMAY proposal mandates that every home constructed under the rehabilitation component of the SRA scheme be given PMAY benefits too.

“The proposal has been accepted by the state government as well as the central government. Now discounts of up to Rs 2.5 lakh will be given to every slum dweller. These slum dwellers are supposed to pay the government only a fixed amount, meaning they will have to pay even lesser amount the homes,” said VM Muglikar, senior official, PMAY, Maharashtra. He further stated that homes under the same scheme in Pune will also enjoy the same benefits.

The criteria for availing PMAY benefits is that a person shouldn’t have a pucca house.
