Real Estate & Infrastructure Investors’ Summit 2015
The Real Estate and Infrastructure Investor’s Summit – 2015, was organized by National Real Estate Development Council(NAREDCO) and Asia Pacific Real Estate Association (APREA), in association with VC Circle on 5th and 6th October at Hotel Trident, Nariman Point, Mumbai. The aim of this summit was to get the stakeholders of the real estate and infrastructure industry together to have a meaningful and focused dialogue on finding solutions and also showcase the growth of the Indian Real Estate and Infrastructure Sector to the investors.
One of the biggest challenges for the Government of India to achieve Housing for All by 2022 is to ensure flow of adequate funds to build houses and develop infrastructure. A significant percentage of this has to come through private equity. Since the Press Note 2(2005), it is estimated that over USD 20 billion has been invested in Indian Real Estate by global private equity investors. While private equity contributed to about 10% of capital infused in real estate by 2008, it has fallen to 3-4% over the last few years.
To provide this stimulus to Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in real estate in India, the government has recently relaxed the FDI norms, brought affordable housing under infrastructure status and promulgated regulations to promote Real Estate Investment Trusts(REITs) in India. APREA (Asia Pacific Real Estate Association) has been at the forefront of engaging with the Ministry of Finance, Reserve Bank of India(RBI) and Securities and Exchange Board of India(SEBI) for making the regulations favorable to attract capital within the region and the real estate and infrastructure sector.
With the objective to promote the role of Private Equity in the Indian Real Estate and Infrastructure Sector, discuss the opportunities, hurdles and solutions to enhance their participation in the Indian market, NAREDCO and APREA had organised this conclave in Mumbai, the financial capital of India.
